Is President Bush a Liar?

By Pat Goltz

I'm getting really sick and tired of all the misrepresentations and character assassination that have been going on, especially aimed at President Bush. So let me make something clear.

You make yourself look idiotic when you make FALSE accusations against the President.

There are a number of things Bush has done I'm not happy about. I'm not happy about No Child Left Behind, or Faith Based Initiatives, or the Senior Drug Program. I'm not happy about his trying to shove amnesty for illegal immigrants down our throats. And I wasn't happy with him for appointing Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court. I am especially not happy with him for being so hard to reach, and so unwilling to listen to those of us who support him. If he had been more accessible, I could have told him the things I'm unhappy about. And I am VERY unhappy with him for not taking Terri Schiavo into protective custody and for not stopping abortion. Could he stop abortion? Yes! Dead cold in its tracks. All he would have to do is announce to the country that he won't enforce Roe v. Wade, and state and local prosecutors may prosecute abortionists under state homicide statutes. After all, it's his job to enforce or NOT enforce any Supreme Court decision, and there IS precedent. One of our early presidents refused to enforce a Supreme Court ruling. What are the justices going to do? Take an UZI out and shoot the President? So there is really no excuse that the mass axe-murders and medical rapes are still going on. And if he did that? Not every state would prosecute, but enough abortionists would go out of business that this by itself wouldn't matter. If there are no abortionists, there aren't going to be many abortions. And we know where all the abortionists are! They should be given one week to close up shop and get out of town, and any still practicing should be prosecuted. For that matter, Congress could stop abortion, too. All they would have to do is give women the right to refuse to have an abortion. And if they did that, 90% of them wouldn't get abortions, and the abortionists would go out of business! And don't you think it's highly hypocritical that people who say they favor the "right to choose" won't support a woman's right to refuse?

That said, I am outraged at people who are leveling FALSE accusations at Bush.

Among those accusations are that President Bush is a liar. I think he probably did lie a couple of times, but NOT about what he is most often accused of lying about. I'm talking about what he said about Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq, and Saddam's involvement with al Qaeda. He made a mistake in not telling us more reasons for going into Iraq, but I want to set the record straight.

First of all, if someone believes what he says, he is NOT a liar. He may be mistaken. But lying requires KNOWINGLY misrepresenting the truth.

Let's take a look at what the dictionary has to say about a lie:

lie1?–noun
1. a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood.

lie. Dictionary.com. Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.0.1), Based on the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/lie (accessed: November 10, 2006).

So a LIAR is someone who KNOWINGLY and DELIBERATELY misrepresents the truth. Did Bush believe what he said when he said that there were WMD in Iraq? YES! And so did everyone else! It's outrageous that people would leave him holding the bag for what everyone believed.

Did Bush misrepresent the truth? NO! There WERE WMD in Iraq! How do I know? Because we know what happened to them. We have satellite pictures of the trucks the Russians used to move the WMD into Syria during the couple of months President Bush was dickering around in the UN before we went in there in March, 2003. We also know that some WMD were sent out of the country aboard airliners who were allegedly taking aid to a stricken country in the Middle East (I forget which one). We have documents that are now being translated from the Arabic, that show that Saddam ordered the WMD to be removed from the country. And we have the testimony of people who had been involved in Saddam's weapons program that they were told to remove the weapons. And even if we didn't find any weapons, we did find manufacturing facilities, and it has been said that new weapons could be manufactured in months or hours. Saddam was waiting for us to go away so he could continue to prepare WMD. Were they a danger to us? Yes, and they still are. They can be deployed from where they are. And all it takes is a few fanatical suicide terrorists to do it! We also know that Saddam's technical people had solved the problem of putting nuclear warheads on SCUD missiles. We know he had a lot of yellowcake in the country (remember the claim that it was a lie that Saddam went to Nigeria for yellowcake?) because we found a lot of yellowcake containers that people were using to fetch water, and they were getting sick. And we also found some WMD in the country. There were warheads with a chemical resembling Sarin (but much more deadly). And there was the yellowcake (we found quite a bit of that), and there were other things. And there was an unbelievable collection of conventional weapons, some of which are being used against the Iraqi people by terrorists, and sometimes against us. All of this is thoroughly documented.

Finally, did Bush misrepresent the truth when he said Saddam was involved with al Qaeda? He did not! Saddam WAS involved with al Qaeda. There is heavy and copious documentation of that. And we found his training camp at Salman Pak. And we know that Saddam was talking to bin Laden secretly, or through trusted officials and family members.

So let's set the record straight. Bush was not lying about these things for two reasons: 1. he believed what he said and so did everyone else. 2. He was telling the truth.

When people insist he was lying, they're just accusing him of something falsely, defaming his character, and missing the REAL issues. That last point is probably the most critical. As long as you are misrepresenting what Bush is doing wrong, you aren't really attacking the problems. You're just setting up straw men. You are making yourself look stupid. Maybe I don't want to tell you how to fix it, because I sure don't want you to become EFFECTIVE in your character assassination!

I think Bush is a person who cares about his integrity, and I think all of this character assassination has hurt him deeply and has made him much less effective. I blame people like Cindy Sheehan and John Kerry and other traitors for the prolonged killing in Iraq. These people are aiding and abetting the enemy, and should be prosecuted for treason. Let's put the blame squarely where it belongs.

There's something else I need to talk about, and that is those actions Bush is undertaking that are allegedly undermining the Constitution. First of all, let's put things in perspective. During WWII, the American government interned Japanese-Americans. Their presence (and freedom) were considered a threat to the nation. I don't know if this theory holds any water. I was very young when this was going on. I don't know if this action was justified. I do know that at the time, the Japanese nation thought it was superior and that it had a right to the conquest of the rest of the world. But please keep in mind that putting people in camps is a heckuva lot worse than listening in on conversations between terrorists without a search warrant! As has been rightly pointed out, if they had to get a search warrant first, the conversation would be over! And people are forgetting that Bush has protected the nation from terrorist attacks for five years. Sometimes I wish there would be another attack just so people would figure out what he has accomplished! Maybe with all those Democrats in Congress, it will happen. The only thing I do NOT want is for anyone to get hurt. But how quickly we forget!

And then there is the alleged torture of prisoners. Come on, folks! Do you even know what real torture is? Humiliating someone is NOT torture. Not by any stretch of the imaginating. THREATENING bodily harm isn't torture, either.

Cutting off people's hands and heads, that's torture. Running someone through a shredder to kill him, that's torture. Shooting electric current through people is torture. Saddam did things like this. As far as I know, no American has resorted to anything close to that.

We have a dadburned COUNTRY CLUB at Guantanamo Bay, and people are calling it by unmentionable names. These people get three squares of halal meals a day. They have prayer rugs and Qurans, and they're allowed to pray. They have air conditioning, for crying out loud! And they had the audacity to complain it's too cold! And they spit at the guards and commit violence against the guards whenever they get a chance. They are DANGEROUS, and we need to keep them locked up. And it is CUSTOMARY to keep enemy combatants locked up for the duration of a war, and that's what they are! And we don't have to give them a trial or any Constitutional rights. They're not parties to the Geneva Convention, which is a TREATY, folks! They don't abide by the Geneva Convention. It would be nice if we could abide by it, but this IS war. We are under NO OBLIGATION to treat these animals with kid gloves!

Let me point out a few other things. The Geneva Convention and other treaties require that combatants have to wear military uniforms. Everyone who doesn't wear one is a civilian. Oh yeah? What do you do when combatants wear civilian dress, when women harbor combatants, and when children shoot automatic weapons at you? Are they civilians? Of course not! So let's not hear any complaints when our troops protect themselves. When some kid is pointing a gun at you, you shoot first and ask questions later. And it would be REAL INTERESTING to know how many Americans have been killed because we were scupulously avoiding killing "civilians" whenever we could.

Oh, and another thing. The Lancet, a British medical magazine, which I USED to respect, decided that Americans have killed 660,000 Iraqis. I have another reason for not respecting them: they promote legal abortion. So it's not really over this issue that I have lost respect for them. But let's look at that figure. I actually downloaded the article, and I think the methodology is flawed, but that's another discussion. If there were THAT MANY Iraqis killed, the country would stink to high heaven! Guess who killed more than that number. Saddam. The people were willing to take a risk to get rid of that madman tyrant. So today I heard that it has been decided that 150,000 have died. Well, guess what! That is 1/4 of the number The Lancet claimed for starters. And let's get straight about WHO is doing the killing. Don't you hear regularly on the radio that some suicide bomber or some truck bomb killed so many Iraqis? Well, guess what! The AMERICANS aren't committing suicide bombings, and we're not setting up roadside and truck bombs. So why are WE being blamed for this?

Let's just stop all this misrepresentation RIGHT NOW. Enough is enough! Don't play loose with the facts anymore. Don't comfort the enemy. Stop committing treason. Keep your blasted mouths shut! You don't have the right to commit treason in the name of freedom of speech. Our Founders made it plain that treason is NOT an example of the exercise of freedom of speech. They prosecuted and executed traitors. It's high time we started doing the same again.

Leave President Bush alone and let him do his job. And get out of his face.
