What the NEW YORKER and 60 MINUTES...

by Tammy Bruce

won't show you: an American soldier as hero. While the liberal media waits for and drools over the prospect of force-feeding you more pictures of the work of a few sadists in the military, I picked up this great pic from the Drudge Report as a reminder of who the average U.S. soldier really is, and the incredible importance of his work. As we are inundated with more pictures of the few who have abused Iraqi prisoners, demand of news outlets that they also publish pictures like the one I've sent to you. For a complete list of media and their contact information go to:

http://www.mrc.org/MediaAddresses/mediaaddresses.asp

(If you don't know about Media Research Center they're a great organization and worth your attention).

Also ask the media you contact if they've covered organizations like the following:

http://www.iraqischools.com/ [this link no longer exists]

which, through our men and women in uniform, and a volunteer group here in the U.S., organize school supplies for Iraqi children.

Ask the media outlets you contact how many stories they've done about the number of schools American soldiers have reconstructed in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Our soldiers have helped to refurbish and reconstruct hundreds of schools in both countries for children and finally little girls in Afghanistan are attending school. You wouldn't know that if you listened to the American media.

Then demand, as they obsess over the prison scandal, that they begin to cover these positive, ongoing and successful reconstruction efforts by our soldiers in both countries and the extraordinary impact on the lives of women and children especially.

Let them know you have noticed the media is sadistically selective in what they choose to show you and the world about our efforts in Iraq. And now they have virtually ignored our troops and their work in Afghanistan (of course unless something goes wrong).

If you have been feeling helpless in the face of the orgy of prison photos and the one-sided "reporting" of the situation in Iraq, this is a way you can make a difference.

Also, if you're inclined, contact the DoD, Secretary Rumsfeld and other DoD officials telling them you continue to support the war on terror and are proud of their work.

Snail mail for Rumsfeld and other Dod officials:

And last but not least, send a message to one or more troops telling them how much you support them and appreciate their work:

That's it for now.

Cheers
Tammy
